The international recognition and acknowledgement of the "Soweto School of Art" has been accredited to Martin G Britz author of the pioneering book - "South African Fine Art – The Soweto School of Art" ISBN 978-1-920668-00-6. The book is the culmination of a dedicated 26 year long study exclusively focused on the artworks and history of 28 black male fine artists active in Soweto, South Africa. The book has been written in the narrative rather than academic form allowing Martin to share details of his personal relationship with each of the artists in the interpretation of their own artworks. Being written in the narrative, the reader is able to experience the emotional undercurrents prevalent in Sowetan society during the years spanning the period 1960 – 2010. The "Soweto School of Art" group is the first "school of art" consisting of black fine artists exclusively, to emerge from the African continent, marking a significant event in the history of art.
